Barrier tissue immunity to pathogenic and commensal fungi

Dr. Dang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Immunogy at Harvard Medical School, and a Core Member of the Ragon Institute, where his lab investigates how the mammalian immune system senses and responds to fungi. His research seeks to understand the cellular and molecular logic underlying immune decision-making during fungal infection, for example how the host distinguishes harmful from commensal fungi, integrates competing signals, and commits to a particular response program that can either resolve or perpetuate disease. A central interest is understanding the early innate sensing events that shape downstream adaptive immunity during fungal infection or colonization. This includes defining the roles of epithelial and innate immune cell populations in detecting fungi and translating those signals into coordinated type 1, type 2 or type 3 immune programs.
