This new annual lecture series established in honour of Professor Sir John Bell

Monday, 22 June 2026, 4pm to 5.30pm

Speaker: Professor Sarah Teichmann
Title: The Human Cell Atlas: Cellular Architecture of Health and Disease

The lecture will take place in-person at the Mathematical Institute, Oxford, 4:00-5:30pm, followed by a drinks reception.

This new annual lecture series is established in honour of Professor Sir John Bell, whose vision founded the Centre for Human Genetics and helped shape the modern landscape of genomic medicine. Beyond his academic contributions, Sir John has played a pivotal role in transforming the UK life sciences sector, influencing national research strategy and fostering collaboration between academia, healthcare and industry.

We are delighted that the inaugural lecture will be delivered by Professor Sarah Teichmann, a pioneer in cellular genomics and co-founder of the Human Cell Atlas - one of the most ambitious and influential initiatives in modern biology. Her work is redefining how we understand human cell identity and its role in disease, with far-reaching implications for the future of medicine.
