DESCRIPTION:Clinical decision support systems are arguably the most tra
nsformational aspect of the introduction of AI into primary care. Luke’s
talk will introduce what these systems are\, how they\, work\, and how th
ey are set to change the practice of medicine. Luke will also present find
ings from a multi-stakeholder future casting workshop\, along with ten rec
ommended actions to bend the UK’s digital trajectory toward the divine.\
n\nLuke is a GP who co-directs the Global Primary Care & Future Health Sys
tems team at Oxford’s Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Science
s\, along with the WHO Collaborating Centre for Primary Health Care. His h
ealth systems and health policy research explores new AI-enabled models of
care delivery\, focusing on clinical decision support tools that assist G
Ps with reaching diagnoses and selecting appropriate investigations and tr
eatments. Trained at Harvard and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical M
edicine\, he has been appointed to chair the new Lancet Primary Care Workf
orce Commission\, which will explore how AI can be responsibly integrated
into primary care at scale\, drawing on analogies from high-stakes industr
ies including aviation\, nuclear power\, autonomous weapons\, and algorith
mic trading to develop governance and safety frameworks. Luke advises mini
stries of health around the world on health sector reform\, and has worked
as a senior consultant to the World Health Organisation and World Bank.\n
