DESCRIPTION:From photographs\, blogs and recordings\, to databases and web
 sites\, so much of our research now results in digital\, rather than analo
 gue\, outputs. But much like printed books and papers\, without care and a
 ttention these digital outputs can become damaged\, difficult to access an
 d use\, or become lost altogether.\n\nBeyond responsible research practice
 s and the benefits of outputs being available to the community\, the need 
 to address and mitigate the risks to the digital content we create is some
 thing institutions and grant funders are taking ever more seriously. So\, 
 understanding how we can care for the digital outputs of research is incre
 asingly important.\n\nThis session will cover the basics\, including what 
 digital preservation is and why it matters in a research context. It will 
 also offer practical steps to help keep research accessible and usable lon
 g into the future.\n\nAt the end of the session participants will be able 
 to: describe what ‘digital preservation’ is\; explain key challenges a
 nd opportunities to consider when managing the digital outputs of research
  (e.g. digitised and born-digital content)\; discuss University and fundin
 g body policies relating to ‘digital preservation’\; and locate tools\
 , resources\, and support services available within the University and bey
 ond\, to help keep digital materials accessible and usable in the long-ter
 m.
