DESCRIPTION:Extreme heat threatens human health across all life stages\, w
ith climate change accelerating the frequency\, intensity\, and duration o
f such events. Understanding the mechanisms underlying heat-related pathol
ogy\, particularly in vulnerable populations\, is therefore critical.\n\nI
n this seminar\, I will discuss the normal mechanisms of thermoregulation
in heat-exposed humans and how these adjustments become pathological in vu
lnerable groups. I will then outline my research programme\, which transla
tes mechanistic understanding into practical applications. This includes i
dentifying physiological risk factors across the life course\, from matern
al physiology to ageing\, and developing evidence-based strategies to prot
ect vulnerable individuals from extreme heat.
