DESCRIPTION:An Exclusive Talk for Members of the Ashmolean\nThis event tak
es place in-person in the New Douce Print Room\, meet at the Welcome Desk\
nChoose one of two sessions: 2-3pm or 3-4pm\nTickets are £25 each. Bookin
 g is essential\n\nWith Timothy Wilcox\, writer\, curator and lecturer\n\nJ
oin Timothy for this exclusive visit to the New Douce Print Room\, explori
ng the works of William Turner 'of Oxford'.\n\nBorn just four years after
his celebrated namesake J.M.W. Turner\, William Turner ‘of Oxford’ liv
ed most of his life in the great man’s shadow. Both were landscape paint
ers\, but the local man’s art was no pale imitation of the other’s.\n\
nHaving grown up in the Oxfordshire countryside\, Turner ‘of Oxford’ u
nderstood that landscape was not an unchanging constant\, but a dynamic ex
pression of the lives of the often humble workers who populated it.\n\nHis
concern for physical and social change\, from the North of Scotland to th
e Isle of Wight\, is evident from the Ashmolean’s rich collections of hi
 s drawings and watercolours.
