DESCRIPTION:Tom Buchanan\, Professor of Modern British and European Histor
 y and Fellow of Kellogg College\, delivers his valedictory lecture explori
 ng Britain’s response to the rise of fascism between 1933 and 1945. Draw
 ing on decades of research\, Professor Buchanan will examine how British s
 ociety\, politics and culture responded to the emergence of both domestic 
 fascist movements\, including the British Union of Fascists\, and the grow
 ing threat posed by fascist regimes across Europe.\n\nThe lecture will con
 sider the effectiveness of popular anti-fascist mobilisation\, the role of
  the British imperial state\, and the experiences of individuals whose liv
 es were shaped by this turbulent period. Reflecting on a subject with endu
 ring contemporary relevance\, Professor Buchanan will also share how this 
 lecture marks the culmination of one chapter of his academic career while 
 offering a glimpse into the future direction of his research.\n\nThis even
