DESCRIPTION:Bob Chilcott conducts his nine-movement work The Rainbow and p
remieres Gardens\, a brand-new commission for the Choir of Worcester Colle
 ge\, Oxford. \n\nThe Rainbow is a vibrant nine-movement work that unites u
pper- and mixed-voice choirs in a multi-faceted exploration of colour. Eac
h of the movements is devoted to one of the rainbow’s colours\, each ass
igned its own identity and framed as an element of the natural world. The
richly scored instrumental accompaniment demonstrates Chilcott’s vivid m
usical palette and helps to characterise each colour within the over-archi
ng narrative of the value of your own self-expression.\n\nThe concert will
also preview the Choir’s upcoming CD recording of Gardens – a suite o
f seven new commissions inspired by the gardens of the Bible. With texts w
ritten and compiled by Worcester Chaplain Revd Marcus Green\, the commissi
ons feature music by John Barber\, Bob Chilcott\, Joanna Forbes L’Estran
ge\, Jaakko Mäntyjärvi\, Cecilia McDowall\, Paul Mealor\, and Deborah Pr
 itchard.
