DESCRIPTION:In response to localised tissue exposures\, spatially and temp
orally regulated signals can transit from the affected site to influence c
ells in distal target organs\, mediating an organism-wide response. It is
now clear that the immune system acts as both an initiator and a sensor of
this organ-to-organ communication (organ crosstalk immunology)\, but we s
till have limited knowledge of the outcomes that such crosstalk confers. C
ontrasting peripheral immune features following mucosal infection with tho
se that associate with brain injury (ischaemic stroke)\, this talk will ex
plore how co-ordinated local and systemic immune cell instruction influenc
 es organismal morbidity and survival.
