es were often set in Spencer's home village of Cookham\, depicting small a
lleys\, overgrown backyards\, gardens with hedges and fences\, mowed lawns
and beds that were filled with cottage flowers. These works proved ever p
opular during his lifetime.\n\nPeter will also examine how\, in later life
\, Spencer created the persona of British art’s eccentric genius\, pushi
ng his pram of painting materials around Cookham\, carrying out his commis
 sions.
