DESCRIPTION:Join us for an expert talk with Dr. Ashley Sweetman exploring
how financial institutions have become a critical arena where cyber securi
ty\, operational resilience\, and national economic security intersect. As
modern finance has grown increasingly dependent on complex digital system
s that process vast volumes of transactions and move capital across border
s\, cyber risk has emerged as a core strategic challenge with implications
that extend well beyond the banking sector.\nDrawing on historical insigh
ts from the transformation of banking in the City of London and themes fro
m his book Cyber in the City\, the talk examines what this experience reve
als about the enduring relationship between technological innovation\, sys
temic risk\, and the security of critical financial infrastructure.\n\nDr.
Ashley Sweetman is author of "Cyber and the City: Securing London's Banks
in the Computer Age." He is a Director of cyber security for a London-bas
ed global bank. Alongside this\, Sweetman is a Visiting Research Associate
in the Emerging Threats Group at Oxford University and an Affiliate Fello
w at the Research Institute for Sociotechnical Cyber Security (RISCS)\, th
e UK's first academic research institute to focus on understanding the ove
rall cyber security of organisations\, funded by the National Cyber Securi
ty Centre (NCSC) and hosted at the University of Bristol.
