Data Management in Practice
Audience: Member of University - Students Format: OnlineA cross‑disciplinary roundtable where researchers share practical strategies for managing research data.
Tuesday, 26 May 2026, 2pm to 4pm
This roundtable focuses on how researchers manage data in the context of their own projects, recognising that approaches vary widely across disciplines, methods, and research environments. Bringing together panellists at different career stages, the session offers an opportunity to hear how data management is handled in practice, from planning and organisation to longer-term storage and use.
Panellists will reflect on the practical decisions involved in working with different types of data, including how they organise and update materials, move between online and offline systems, and adapt their approaches as projects evolve. The discussion will also consider common challenges in managing data over time and how these are addressed in different research contexts.
The session is participatory and discussion-led, with space for questions, shared experiences, and reflection on participants’ own approaches to managing research data. It is open to DPhil students at any stage of their doctorate.
Objectives:
• To explore research data management as a practical aspect of the research process
• To offer insight into how researchers organise and manage data across different contexts
• To consider common challenges in data management and how they are addressed in practice
• To create space for discussion and reflection on participants’ own data management practices
