Audience: Member of University - ALL Format: In PersonJoin Nadia Murad and Amal Clooney for a talk on their fight for justice for survivors of genocide and sexual violence.
Wednesday, 3 June 2026, 2.30pm to 3.30pm
Join Nadia Murad, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, and Amal Clooney, Blavatnik School of Government Visiting Professor of Practice in International Law, for a discussion on their ongoing fight for justice for survivors of genocide and sexual violence around the world.
In 2014, ISIS attacked Nadia Murad’s hometown in Sinjar and began a genocidal campaign against her community, the Yazidis, in Iraq. After escaping from captivity, Nadia devoted her life to fighting against the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war. Visiting Professor Clooney has been Nadia’s counsel for the past ten years. Together, they successfully advocated for the creation of a United Nations team to investigate ISIS crimes. And since then, Visiting Professor Clooney has represented Nadia’s family member in the first trial to lead to a conviction for genocide as well as other Yazidi women in cases leading to convictions for crimes against humanity and war crimes against Yazidis.
Nadia Murad is a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and UNODC Goodwill Ambassador, and is a leading advocate for survivors of genocide and sexual violence.
