A careers advice seminar on leadership

Friday, 5 June 2026, 10am to 11.30am

Many Oxford students will go on to positions of significant responsibility in government, industry, academia, finance, technology, medicine, and public service — often leading teams long before they feel fully prepared to do so.

This seminar is designed for early career professionals and students who may soon find themselves responsible for leading others in high-performance environments. The discussion will focus on how effective leaders maintain high standards, build trust, hold others accountable, and achieve excellence without losing humility, professionalism, or perspective.

The session will include candid discussion and mentorship from military leaders with operational experience leading organizations in complex and high-pressure environments.

Panel Members
- Captain René Cano, United States Navy
- Lieutenant Colonel James Dutton, Royal Marines
- Surgeon Captain Rory Rickard, Royal Navy
