Audience: Public Format: In PersonWorcester College Choir premieres Gardens, a brand-new commission inspired by the gardens of the Bible.
Saturday, 30 May 2026, 7.30pm to 9.30pm
Bob Chilcott conducts his nine-movement work The Rainbow and premieres Gardens, a brand-new commission for the Choir of Worcester College, Oxford.
The Rainbow is a vibrant nine-movement work that unites upper- and mixed-voice choirs in a multi-faceted exploration of colour. Each of the movements is devoted to one of the rainbow’s colours, each assigned its own identity and framed as an element of the natural world. The richly scored instrumental accompaniment demonstrates Chilcott’s vivid musical palette and helps to characterise each colour within the over-arching narrative of the value of your own self-expression.
The concert will also preview the Choir’s upcoming CD recording of Gardens – a suite of seven new commissions inspired by the gardens of the Bible. With texts written and compiled by Worcester Chaplain Revd Marcus Green, the commissions feature music by John Barber, Bob Chilcott, Joanna Forbes L’Estrange, Jaakko Mäntyjärvi, Cecilia McDowall, Paul Mealor, and Deborah Pritchard.
